Profile 18 Fabulous Female - Ms. Peridot Webster-Steele of Peri's Plus

Mrs. Peridot Webster-Steele is a fun and FABULOUS bundle of energy and joy.  A firm believer that a good fitting bra brings out the best in a woman, she is celebrating her 10th year in the bra industry with her business Peri's Plus.

1.     Describe yourself in no more than three sentences, one if it is possible.

A young woman striving to leave a legacy of excellence through her talents.

2.     Who or What is your greatest motivation?
My greatest motivation is my children and the desire to not depend on the system that is “8-4”.

3.     Share with us what your business is about?
Peri’s Plus Ltd is a bra boutique in Trinidad and Tobago that provides bras, bra fittings and undergarments for the fuller busted woman. In addition to this, we provide in store events called the “Uplift series” via which motivational and educational seminars are held free of charge to our clients.

4.     What is the main factor that got you involved or led you into business/entrepreneurship?
My business was born out my need of not getting proper fitting bras at affordable prices as a fuller busted woman.
5.     How critical is creativity in the running of your business?
Peri with satisfied customers
Creativity is very critical. Finding new ways to engage clients is important in educating them and informing them on all that you have to offer. For example, our Valentine’s Day promotion was done with a twist- The tag line was “ We all have that one bra that supports us through thick and thin’… this Valentine’s Day tell us what a good fitting bra means to you and the response with the most likes will win… So you see instead of saying buy one bra and get the other free, this way it engages your client base and creates topics of discussion. Another example is B.R.A.V.O (Bra Really Add Value Overall), the Caribbean’s first annual Bra Festival. An idea that I had for the past four years, whereby women would come and be fitted for their correct bra size as well get pap smears and breast examination by the Cancer Society.
6.     Do you think that your experience is different in any way than a male in the same type of business? Please explain.
Currently, the bra business is dominating by women, so this would not really apply. I will say, however, that regardless of the field, there is room for everyone.
7.     What is your number 1 business principle?
Poster for the Caribbean's first bra festival.
Superior customer service.
8.     List three things you just can’t go without?
a.     A piping hot cup of tea and breakfast
b.    Seeking counsel from God before I make a move
c.      Going to Rhea Crawford-Attick my beloved hair dresser 😊

9.     What is the hardest lesson learnt in business so far?
Business must go on regardless of the life experiences that may come your way. I am currently working on my first book to celebrate my tenth year in business which highlights this.
10.     Is there any advice you would like to share with other young women hoping to start or just starting out in business?
Patience is key. There will many ups and downs but you must have the determination to never give up. Be clear on the product/service you want to provide and be the best at it.
11.     Bonus Question: “What, in your opinion, is the best thing about being female?”
The ability to give life and nurture. Childbirth is a gift and a mystery that we will never really understand. Childbirth aside, we have an innate nurturing spirit that Science cannot explain.
